Best Outdoor Paddling Pools for Kids In & Around Surrey & Hampshire
When the sun comes out, there’s one question every parent asks…
“Where can we take the kids to cool off?”
Luckily, in Surrey or Hampshire, we are spoilt for choice. From free splash pads and paddling pools to outdoor lidos with flumes and picnic areas, there are plenty of places where little ones can splash, play and burn off some energy.
As a family photographer covering Surrey and Hampshire, I’m always exploring beautiful places that families love, and these are some of my favourite outdoor paddling pools and splash spots for a fun summer day out.
1. Stoke Park Paddling Pool & Splash Pad – Guildford
My fave!
I have many memories of taking Mimi here when she was little
The large paddling pool is perfect for toddlers and younger children, while the splash pad keeps bigger kids entertained. There are also fantastic play areas, plenty of green space and a café nearby.
It’s a brilliant place to spend a few hours without spending a fortune.
Perfect for: Babies, toddlers and children up to around 8 years old.

2. Aldershot Lido
One of the biggest outdoor pools in the South East, Aldershot Lido is a family favourite every summer.
There’s so much more than just swimming:
- Toddler paddling pool
- Three exciting water flumes
- Large picnic lawns
- Sandpit
- Basketball court
- Plenty of room for families
If you’ve got children of different ages, this is one of the best places to keep everyone happy.
Top tip: Book online in advance during school holidays, as it gets incredibly popular on hot days.

3. Guildford Lido
Guildford Lido is one of Surrey’s most iconic outdoor swimming spots.
The heated outdoor pool is surrounded by beautiful gardens, making it a lovely place for parents to relax while children enjoy the water.
There’s plenty of space for picnics and it’s ideal if you’re looking for a full family day out.

4. Churchfields Recreation Ground – Weybridge
This recently refurbished splash pad is fantastic for younger children.
Bright colours, fountains and gentle water sprays make it a great choice for toddlers and preschoolers, and it’s completely free to use during the summer season.
5. Runnymede Pleasure Grounds
Located close to Egham, this lovely riverside park has a shallow paddling pool alongside a fantastic playground.
Water play with riverside walks, an ice cream and a picnic…what a fun day.
6. Hersham Recreation Ground
Another fantastic free paddling pool that’s perfect for younger children.
It’s enclosed, making it easier to keep an eye on little explorers, and there’s a great playground nearby too.
7. Lammas Recreation Ground – Staines
The splash park here has become incredibly popular with local families.
Jets, fountains and plenty of open space make it ideal for energetic children who love getting soaked.
8. Hilsea Lido – Portsmouth
Just into Hampshire, Hilsea Lido has recently reopened after refurbishment and is well worth the drive.
With family swim sessions, plenty of outdoor space and a historic setting, it’s a lovely option if you’re based in Hampshire.
Remember To Take:
- Swimwear
- Swimming nappies (if needed)
- Towels
- Sun cream
- Sun hats
- Blanket to sit on
- Plenty of drinks
- Picnic
- Change of clothes
