Why are we totally intrigued by people born on 29 February compared to us who have birthdays once a year?

As they aren’t going to celebrate another birthday until 2028, I thought I’d look at famous “Leaplings” and some interesting facts around their birthday being this special day.

Facts:

• Did you know, if your baby is born on this day, in UK law, leaplings become a year older not on 28th February but on 1st March if is not a leap year.
• Someone born on Leap Day typically celebrates birthdays on Feb 28th or March 1st but identification and important documents show a birthdate of Feb 29th.
• So if you are a 17 year old leapling planning a first driving lesson or a night with a few cocktails (not together!) on 28th February you will have to wait until 1st March to do so.
• The chance of being born on February 29th is approximately 1 in 1,461, making leap year babies a rare and special occurrence.
• In some cultures, leap year babies are believed to possess unique talents or luck.
• They are Pisceans in the Zodiac and are known for being intuitive, compassionate, and sensitive. They are able to empathize with others easily and are natural healers. Their loyalty to friends and family is undeniable.
