Why I Give Every Client a Polaroid Photo | Surrey Family Photographer
When I attended a talk with Rankin at his London studio with my good friend, Natalie Moss (Photography), about his magazine Hunger, last year, his advice to me after when we had a really quick chat was simple: be different.
As a Surrey family photographer, that really stayed with me. In a world where families receive hundreds of digital images, how do you create something truly memorable.

Who is Rankin?
Rankin is a British photographer, publisher, and creative director known for his amazing portrait work of celebrities, fashion campaigns, and editorial photography. He co-founded Dazed & Confused magazine one of my favourite magazines.

Standing Out as a Photographer
Listening to Rankin made me realise that standing out doesn’t always mean doing something dramatic. Sometimes it’s about creating a thoughtful experience your clients won’t forget.
For me, that’s my Polaroid series.
It’s a simple idea-but one about real memories and something you can actually hold onto.

Creating Meaningful Family Photography Experiences
At every session now, I take a single Polaroid photograph.
It’s not perfect, it’s not edited.
I hand it to you as a gift-dated, physical, and yours to keep.
This has become a part of my family photography sessions in Surrey, and something my clients often head home and put straight up to look at every day.

Why Printed Photos Still Matter
Today, most children grow up seeing photos on screens. Images are taken, shared, a filter put on them and then quickly forgotten.
But a printed photo is different.
It’s something you can hold, display, and come back to years later.
That’s why I include a Polaroid at every family photoshoot-to give you something tangible in a digital world.
